1. advantages
(1) Good safety performance.
The Lithium ion polymer battery is structurally packed with the aluminum-plastic soft package, which is different from the metal shell of the liquid core. Once there is a safety hazard, the lithium-ion core is easy to explode, while the polymer battery will only be gas drum and burn at most.
(2) Thin thickness
Ultra-thin, the thickness can be less than 1mm, can be assembled into a credit card. There are technical bottlenecks in the thickness of ordinary liquid lithium-ion batteries below 3.6mm, and the 18650 battery has standard volume.
(3) Lightweight and large capacity
The battery with polymer electrolyte does not need a metal shell as the outer protection package, so when the capacity is the same, it is 40% lighter than the lithium battery in a steel shell and 20% lighter than that of an aluminum shell battery. When the volume is generally large, the capacity of the polymer battery is larger, about 30% higher.
(4) Shape can be customized
Polymer batteries can add or reduce the thickness of the core according to the actual needs. For example, Apple's new MacBook uses trapezoidal polymer batteries to make full use of the internal space.
2. disadvantages
(1) The cost of the battery is high, 1-5 times more expensive than the 18650 lithium battery. See the manufacturer. 18650 is cheap, which is why most of the charging treasures of Yubo and Pinsheng brands use 18650 cores.
(2) If it is broken, it will be completely abandoned. It is necessary to protect the line control. Overcharge or over-discharge will destroy the reversibility of chemical substances inside the battery, which will seriously affect the battery life.
The disadvantage of polymer batteries is the advantages of the 18650 battery, and it can form a battery array. For example, the Tesla module uses 8000 18650 batteries (produced in Panasonic). Even if a single battery explodes, it will only explode in 1/8000. Replace this one.
Besides, 18650 batteries of large manufacturers will have a safety valve at the top. When the pressure inside the battery is too high, the top safety valve will pop up automatically to reduce pressure, and it is difficult to explode.
